After receiving my iGENEA DNA test results, I am enlightened about my family name–Whiteside and the historical roots it branches from. The comprehensive DNA test reveals a fascinating and intertwined history linking me to ancient Celts, Vikings, and connections within Western Europe. This journey through my genetic code serves as a personal and historical exploration into who I am.
Following the completion of my iGENEA DNA test, I am now more aware of where my ancestry traces back to. To say this experience has been enlightening would be an understatement. What stood out most were the impressive scientific findings concerning my family name, Whiteside.
The Whiteside surname seems to contain a rich history that is connected to Northern Europe, particularly the British Isles. My DNA primarily consists of the R1b haplogroup, a genetic group prevalent in Western Europe. This group forms an integral part of my paternal lineage, connecting me intimately to the ancient Celts, who were widespread across Europe thousands of years ago. That my lineage traces back to this rich and fascinating point in history is quite breathtaking.
My Whiteside lineage, according to the DNA markers, has significant concentrations within England, Ireland and Scotland. According to research, names ending with "side" commonly trace back to regions in Northern England or Scotland.
