Unraveling European Ancestry: iGENEA DNA Test Reveals Locher Surname's Journey Through History

Notably, my iGENEA DNA test results have brought forth fascinating evidence about my family history, particularly tracing the Locher surname to Central Europe. With connections found to prominent European haplogroups, the result paints a picture of a lineage that has experienced significant historical events including post-Ice Age repopulation and the Copper Age's technological advancements.

My iGENEA DNA test has revealed interesting information about my ancestry, specifically with regard to my Locher surname. The examination highlights a wealth of detail about my ancestral lineage, uncovering my roots as a Locher to Central Europe.

My father's lineage, the paternal side, is traced to Haplogroup R1b. This haplogroup is one of the most commonly attributed to European populations, predominantly in the West, and according to iGENEA, it is closely associated with Celtic ancestry. My test suggests that my Locher ancestors likely played a role in the population of Central Europe after the retreating ice caps of the last Ice Age, a period characterized by the spread of the Celts.

Additionally, there is a point to note about Haplogroup R1b being linked with the invention of a new wheel technology during the Copper Age in Western Europe. This means that my Locher ancestors played a role not only in repopulating Europe following the Ice Age but also in pushing the technological advancements of their time.

Regarding the maternal side, the test results show a connection to Haplogroup H, predominantly attributed to Western Eurasia. This haplogroup is believed to have spread with the migration of modern humans into this area roughly 45,000 years ago. Within this haplogroup, my mitochondrial DNA shows a distinct strain often found in post-Ice Age populations across Central Europe, hinting that my maternal ancestors likely belonged there.

In essence, the iGENEA test has confirmed that the Locher lineage carries strong European roots, mostly concentrated within Central Europe. The Locher ancestors have been present since the post-Ice Age population explosion in Europe, contributing to the flourishing of the society even by participating in various technological advancements of their time.
