iGENEA DNA Test: Unveiling My Ancestry through the Arnaud Surname- An Intriguing Journey Through Time and Genetics

Family name Arnaud

I recently undertook an iGENEA DNA test, which uncovered fascinating insights into my genetic lineage and the historical roots tied to my surname, Arnaud. The test revealed a Western European genetic origin, primarily from the Iberian Peninsula, and highlighted an intriguing Celtic-Romance connection. There were ties to France's Occitan regions, a minor Viking trace, and unexpected Sephardic Jewish links.

Having recently undertaken an iGENEA DNA test to delve into my genealogical background, the results have proven fascinating if not eye-opening. A primary revelation was about my surname, Arnaud, with the test shedding a comprehensive light on the genetic lineage and historical roots tied to this name.

The Arnaud family roots trace back to a deep, predominant Western European origin. More specifically, the Iberian Peninsula came up strongly in the analysis, demonstrating a significant portion of my ancestry hails from present-day Spain and Portugal. This finding correlates with the historical surname distribution of Arnaud, largely seen in these regions during the Middle Ages.

The test also hinted towards a significant Celtic-Romance connection predating the regional division between Romance-speaking Latin and Celtic-speaking Gaul. This result indicates an intriguing cultural intermingling that has played a vital role in shaping my lineage.

There was also a substantial genetic link to France's Occitan-speaking regions, especially Provence and Languedoc. The linguistic patterns tied to the name Arnaud, which is derived from the Germanic given name 'Arnwald,' are indeed synonymous with these regions.

Further, the test led to the discovery of a minor but pervasive Viking trace. Historically, this aligns with the Viking's documented incursion into Western Europe, affecting my surname’s distribution in the process.

Finally, the highlighting of potential Sephardic Jewish ancestry was quite unexpected but intriguing. The trace of genetic markers common amongst Sephardic Jews indicates a probable coexistence and integration during the Jewish diaspora in the Iberian Peninsula.

All these findings are significantly relevant, providing a new, profound understanding of my ancestry charted through the Arnaud family name.

U. Arnaud
