The famous navigator Zheng He, led seven expeditions during this period that increased the Chinese presence in Southeast Asia and East Africa.
Despite these achievements, the Ming Dynasty was also a time of economic volatility, marked by corruption, rebellion, and natural disasters. The eventual collapse of the government was triggered by social unrest, related to peasant unrest and Manchu invasion. The last Ming emperor, Chongzhen, subsequently committed suicide in 1644, marking the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty.
